In the perfect world every dog has a home; a place to call their own where they are loved, cherished and taken care of — right from the moment they are born all the way up until they’re old and grey.
Why? Well, according to his former owners, the pup was ‘stupid’ and after one too many accidents at home (most likely as a result of his age-related blindness and arthritis) they made arrangements to put him down.
Thankfully, things took an unexpected yet, pleasant turn when Figgy arrived at the vet. After one look at him and a few tests here and there, the staff decided against his owner’s wishes.
Stating that there was no real reason why he shouldn’t be allowed to live out the remainder of his days.
The vet immediately sought out alternative living arrangements, believing that someone, somewhere would be the perfect fit for Figs and they certainly were not mistaken. A few phone calls later, it was settled, Figgy would be moving to sunny San Francisco with hopes of a new life at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue.
Once he arrived at his destination, it was clear that after everything Figgy had been through, he needed just that extra little bit of TLC and so was initially taken home by Muttville founder; Sherri Franklin.
It was with Sherri that Figgy finally got all the love and attention that he so desperately needed and they spent a lot of time cuddling and taking naps. Figgy was living the doggy retirement dream and it must have seemed that life couldn’t get any better until it did!
Within 4 days of his arrival Eileen – a friend of the rescue, reached out expressing her interest in giving Figgy a home.
After successfully adopting many elderly dogs, plenty of which were from Muttville there was no question in Sherris’ mind that Eileen was the perfect fit that everyone had been hoping for. And just like that Figgy was rehomed with Eileen alongside Miss Abbie, another Muttville rescue pup.
When asked what motivates her to do what she does Eileen said,
[Dogs] deserve love, comfort, and security for whatever time they have left and I knew I could provide that.
Eileen is an experienced hospice caretaker who is going to love Figgy for the rest of his days! Isn’t she just the sweetest? It’s people like Eileen and the good folks at Muttville that make us wonder – maybe the worlds’ not such a bad after all.
